Electrical Impedance Tomography

Electrical impedance measurements already contribute to medical care in the measurement of depth of ventilation and the measurement of cardiac activity. The technique is currently in pre-clinical trial on saline-filled physical phantoms. The research involves the construction of complex instruments, practical electrode arrays and sophisticated reconstruction algorithms seeking to determine whether electrical impedance tomography can be useful in clinical practice. Electrical impedance tomography techniques involve the measurement of resistivity across sections of the body.
