This book provides advanced information regarding the constant endeavors being made against the drug resistant characteristics of tuberculosis infection which have posed a serious challenge in treatment against this fatal disease. A strain of Streptomyces Mediterranei (ME-83) - a Streptomyces species - was first extracted from a soil sample in a ranch of pines close to Saint Raphael, France, and isolated in Lepetit Research Labs in the year 1957. This drug became the backbone for chemotherapy with Streptomycin. The wave of happiness generated by the success of this regimen led to the idea that TB eradication would be achievable by 2000s. This was the reason why any further drug enhancements for fighting TB were ceased. However, the lack of a precise administration of these drugs has led to an irruption in the drug resistance of Mycobacterium Tuberculosis. With the declaration of global emergency in 1993, pursuit for new drugs became crucial. Authors from across the globe have contributed in this book with emphasis on the enhancement and activities of novel drug families.
