English-Arabic Biological Terms

By reading through this glossary, Arabic-speaking students will discover a significant correlation between the Latin/Greek terminology and the Arabic terms. Yet Arabic speakers who have studied the sciences in English would not sense this because, as an intermediary teaching language, English has veiled the similarities. Based on the close link between Latin/Greek and Arabic, this glossary aims to reintroduce terms to Arabic-speaking students so that they can make the connection about their meanings and apply them with confidence in Arabic as well as English. The Arabic equivalents of the most commonly used terms in the undergraduate science programs are contained in this glossary. Color coding is applied across English and Arabic translations where beneficial to highlight specific parts and origins of words and how they translate across languages.
