Episodios nacionales I: Bailén

Bailén is the fourth novel in the first series of Episodios Nacionales by Benito Pérez Galdós. The protagonist, Gabriel, travels through Spain towards his beloved Agnes. Along the way he stops at Bailén, the home of a noble family who is preparing their only son to join the army in the fight against the French invaders. As a result, Gabriel participates in the Battle of Bailén, where Spanish and French armies clash. The story provides an accurate account of the battle, which ended with a victory for the Spaniards.
