Zumalacárregui is the first novel in the third series of Episodios Nacionales by Benito Pérez Galdós. After almost 20 years from the end of the second series, the author returns to his prolific story. This time, the Carlist war is the stage. The adventures, thoughts, and fears of the characters tell the deeper story of the war, and concepts like trust, honor, and justice are discussed through their actions. In the end, religion, death, and friendship make up the heart of the story line.
