Great changes are taking place in the late modern world where
not just more people but also more ways of communicating are
constantly on the move. This study describes how not just late
modern young people themselves but music, styles, features of
popular culture, different artifacts, leisure time interests and even
ideologies are travelling between different settings and scenes,
locally and globally. Even more fundamentally, also discourse
practices are on the move. This study explores multilingual language
and discourse practices and repertoires in youth radio broadcasting
in Finland and Sweden and paints a picture of multilingual
life worlds where global and local features intertwine. Being
multilingual is taken for granted and there are many different kinds
of multilingualisms.
The doctoral thesis research has been conducted in collaboration
with Stockholm University and the University of Jyväskylä, based
on a Cotutelle Agreement on the Co-Supervision of Doctoral
Studies between Stockholm University, Faculty of Humanities and
University of Jyväskylä, Faculty of Humanities.
