After suffering a devastating epidemic, the city of Cordoba found support in the Church, the Nobility and the municipal Cabildo, who joined together to erect numerous Triumphs to San Rafael. This journey began in 1651, with the construction of the first one, and culminated in 2014, with the completion of the last one. A 372-year history that has bequeathed to the city unique monuments, further enriching its exceptionality. The highlight is how Cordoba has endowed the figure of the Archangel with an iconography of its own. Regarding his Triumphs, Saint Raphael stands on top of his pedestal, with his characteristic nimbus, dressed in a tunic, carrying the pilgrim's staff, a cloak or mantle and tights up to half a leg. In one hand he holds a fish and in the other, the cartouche with the oath that declares him the custodian of the city: 'I am Raphael the angel, whom God has appointed as guard and custodian of this city'.
