Fluidized Bed Technology

This text, which concentrates on beds of particles fluidized by gas, aims to provide students with sufficient insight of the subject to be able to form their own appreciation of the capabilities and limitations of fluidized bed technology and go on to further study if necessary. The book begins with a discussion of fundamental subject matter, describing how a bed of solid particles may behave when a gas is passed upwards through the bed at sufficiently high rate of flow for the bed to assume fluid-like properties. The text then develops, sometimes using worked examples, to illustrate the considerations involved in the design of equipment based on fluidized bed technology. It is hoped that the book will be of value to experienced engineers, especially those training staff, and to teachers in engineering departments of colleges, universities and polytechnics and to managers or consultants needing to gain a rapid appreciation of the technology.
