To escape the physical and mental abuse of his sadistic father, Paul Raymond enlists in the Army, not to serve his country, but to let himself be killed in battle by the enemy. But his plans for suicide go awry when he meets Tara, a beautiful teenage Kurdish girl who takes refuge in a Catholic orphanage after her parents are killed by Islamic terrorists. Her hatred of soldiers and a clash of cultures send two young people on a journey of delicate give-and-take as they learn the painful lessons of growing up and falling in love.
