Forty Feet and Rising

During the past 200-plus years, Nashville has experienced many floods. About 100 of them occurred before the establishment of the Tennessee Valley Authority and the construction of its dams. Forty Feet and Rising: Nashville's Historic Floods 1793-2010 examines some of the city's worst floods and illustrates how previous actions and lessons unlearned affected the metropolitan area during the devastating May 2010 flood.
