A remarkable first hand account of one man's life in an Anti-tank Regiment in the Second World War. Sent to France with the British Expeditionary Force in 1939 'Tony' Cartwright was promoted to Captain and fought a rearguard action all the way back to Dunkirk, scrambling on HMS Shikari which was the last ship to leave France. He was then posted to Suez and given command of 257 Battery and promoted to Major. He was involved in numerous engagements in the Western Desert during which he met Montgomery, was wounded twice and awarded the MC.After recovering from his second more serious injury at El Alamein he was trained at the SOE Staff school in Haifa, posted to Cairo and then on to SOE Headquarters at 64 Baker Street in London where he spent the final months of the war and was awarded the MBE for his work. This is his story, told in his own words.
