"Piety" is a complex term with a long tradition. In this volume, the topic of piety is investigated from different theological disciplines. It contains contributions on Old Testament and Egyptian notions of piety, practical aspects of prayer in antiquity, the olfactory dimension in Gregor of Nyssa's interpretation of the Song of Songs, the development towards the veneration of the holy Sunday, the plurality of theological concepts of religion, the challenge of the paradigm of "divine nature" for Christian theology, the relationship of the terms "piety" and "spirituality", the significance of piety and other competencies in different models for the education of pastors, and the relation of piety and emotion in the context of pastoral care. The second part contains current projects of members of the Vienna faculty on other topics. The volume closes with a sermon on the relationship of theology and university.
