Frontier Topics in Nuclear and Astrophysics

This volume contains a series of advanced lecture topics on the study of nuclear matter under extreme conditions. The subjects covered include the properties of hot, dense nuclear matter in the laboratory and in stellar objects, nuclear reactions of astrophysical interest and nucleosynthesis. These include heavy-ion reaction dynamics, high-spin physics, radioactive beams, neutron stars, supernovae and solar neutrinos. Experimental techniques, both established and emerging (such as the use of radioactive beams) and theoretical developments are also included. The text aims to serve as a reminder of the close relationship between nuclear physics and astrophysics, especially in conjunction with the physics of the early universe.
