A recent study examined gender mainstreaming in Ghana's fisheries sector, highlighting successes and challenges. The study surveyed 43 respondents from marine, inland, aquaculture subsectors, and regulatory bodies. Key Findings:- Demographics: 71.9% of respondents were aged 31-50, with 65.7% having basic education and all regulators holding tertiary education.- Awareness: 87.5% of actors and 90.9% of regulators acknowledged the importance of gender mainstreaming.- Policy Integration: 43.7% of actors and 36.4% of regulators were unsure if gender mainstreaming was integrated into their organization's policy.- Leadership: 59.4% of actors and 45.5% of regulators believed women's appointment to leadership roles was based on competency.- Training: 43.8% of actors and 18.2% of regulators lacked training in gender mainstreaming.- Financial Resources: 84.4% of actors and 54.5% of regulators felt allocated resources were insufficient for long-term success.- Implementation: 50% of actors reported no designated individual responsible for implementing gender mainstreaming strategies.
