Geoinformatics: Methods and Applications

Geoinformatics is a field of science and technology that is concerned with the use and development of information science infrastructure for developing solutions in cartography, geosciences and geography. At its core, the field encompasses technologies that enable the acquisition, analysis and visualization of spatial data. Geospatial analysis and modelling, information system design, geospatial databases, human-computer interaction, etc. are applied to geoinformatics studies. Geoinformatics also uses geovisualization and geocomputation for analysis of geoinformation. The applications of geoinformatics are diverse, from public health, urban planning and land use management to meteorology, climate change, and environmental modelling and analysis. There has been rapid progress in the field of geoinformatics and its applications are finding their way across multiple industries.
