The work contained in this volume focuses on the close relationship between geomorphology and environmental impact assessment, providing a multifocal overview of this topic. It includes several case studies covering a variety of environmental impacts derived from widespread human activities (quarrying, communication infrastructures, river management, urban development, land restoration and land-use planning) on different geomorphologic components (landforms, soil, landscape, natural and human-induced hazards) and environments (glacial, fluvial, coastal). Finally, taking into account this broad scope of perspectives, the case studies presented offer a methodological guide from the most traditional geomorphological approaches to the use of spatial data analysis and GIS tools and techniques. EIA constitutes a relatively new scientific branch in which a wide variety of specialists are becoming increasingly involved. This volume should be of interest to geomorphologists, biologists, geographers, architects and engineers.
