'Por que ler Freyre hoje em da? As respostas a esta pergunta sao necessariamente mltiplas e contraditrias. Urnas delas concluem que seria melhor fazer essa leitura de Freyre a nossa ltima. Outras apontam novas dir~oes para levar adiante sua obra. O nosso objetivo ao organizar este volume foi instigar novos ensaios que nao representassem simplesmente julgamentos sobre a obra de Freyre, mas, antes, interpreta(6es significativas.'
