This is an autobiography by Elizabeth Doery, a granddaughter of Sir Robert Ho Tung and daughter of Jean Gittins, one of whose books, Stanley: Behind Barbed Wire, was published in 1982 by the HKUP. Elizabeth Doery was born into a minority Eurasian community in Hong Kong in 1930, but was evacuated to Australia with her brother on the eve of the Japanese invasion of Hong Kong in World War II. Her mother was interned in Stanley Camp for the duration of the occupation, then joined her children and settled in Australia. In the autobiography she comes across as a pleasant, thoughtful person. The book is well written and with some sense of drama, and will be of interest in Hong Kong among the Eurasian families and among family historians.
