These eight stories were written by the author in the '70s and published in literary magazines in the '80s. Two stories won honorable mention in The Best American Short Stories of the Year in 1978 and 1982.
Two sisters decide to send their parents back to fifth grade to repeat and benefit from their own experience. Two stories depict characters in a state of hyper-aesthetic storm. There is loss of love and reckoning with mistakes. Some stories revolve around the exploration of mindsets of various psychological intensity. There is experimental writing, inspired by the author's admiration of writers like Clarice Lispector and Proust.
There is one piece of unconscious writing, that is, drawn from a place of dreams-or primary process, without the restraint of ego or constructed by thought. On some inexplicable level, it worked. They liked it, they published it. One story reflects the author's picture of her father's life as a boy in a primitive lumber town in 1929. All of the stories have elements of both the experimental and the unconscious. Mostly the stories are about the love of language and the creative play of language. And rich imagery. Language and imagery are where the author lives.
