HAFIZ (HAFEZ)T elevision, Film, Stage, Radio by Paul Smith From the Preface: I was born in Melbourne, Australia in 1945. My family lived in the bayside-suburb of Parkdale. Even before I was eight I was composing poems/songs in the particular ancient form of ghazals although at the time I didn't know what they were. In 1972 I began work on a translation of the 791 poems/songs (mainly ghazals) of the Divan of Hafiz. This work would take me twelve years to complete. During 1989 I wrote Hafiz's life story as a radio play Sun of Shiraz and performed his poetry on radio in Australia. I gave a poetry reading at the Australian Poetry Festival and two hour lectures and stories of Hafiz in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington D.C., New York, New Jersey, Atlanta and elsewhere. I wrote a stage musical play: Hafiz of Shiraz. In 1990 I wrote the feature film, Hafiz of Shiraz. I wrote an animated film on the Life of Hafiz called... Hafiz. In 2002 I was contacted by the enthusiastic British film producer Robert Watts... producer of Meetings with Remarkable Men, Star Wars, Raiders of Lost Ark, Roger Rabbit Transformer Inc. Entertainment for Hafiz of Shiraz (poss. 3 part film). Many ghazals from the Divan of Hafiz I incorporated into my 3 volume novel/biography of Hafiz, Hafiz of Shiraz... that I completed in 2013 after twelve years. The three books became the foundation for the Television Series. It my belief it is most complete way to tell his wonderful story.
