After the death of his wife's son, screenwriter Rudolph Wurlitzer and photographer Lynn David embarked on a journey of the sacred sights of Cambodia, Thailand and Burma. Looking for the peace and wisdom of a more enlightened age, they found instead, amidst the relics and artefacts of the ancient past, the painful realities of a dissident and decadent modernity - golf clubs, sex clubs, ageing hippies, professional expatriates and myriad other monuments to Western invasion, alongside the harsh, homegrown political realities of the region and their own transportable, private grief. Part traveller's tale, part personal journey, the book explores the dark corners and dangerous roads of both worlds.
