Haunted East End

The East End has been the subject of gossip, publicity and controversy throughout the ages. Long the unquestioned driving force of Britain's maritime power, it housed immigrants from all over the world. Yet, aside from its tumultuous political history, it also houses some of the most poignant memories, especially those of the unfortunates who died in this area and whose spirits live on. The Tower of London, a garrison for the Romans, a stronghold for the medieval kings, bears witness to some of the hauntings of the area: Two young princes' ghosts are reputedly seen to be cowering in various rooms and Sir Walter Raleigh paces down the corridors. Oliver Goldsmith's head appeared at a local tavern and the Ripper's victims appear at the dead of night. The stories of these apparitions plus countless more hauntings are contained herein.
