"My name is Alex, Alex Hawthorne, and let's just say I've had my fair share of moments where I didn't quite have all the smarts. Everhaven City-that's where I hung my hat. Used to be a real gem, you know? Everywhere you looked, there was a glimmer of hope, a touch of magic. I loved that place.
I worked as a journalist for the 'Everhaven Chronicles.' Not to toot my own horn, but I was pretty decent at my job. Uncovered some pretty gritty stuff, but I also made sure to shine a light on all the good in the city. It was a peaceful time, you know? Felt like we were really making a difference.
Then things took a dark turn. Mayor Carter Fairweather, bless his soul, passed away during the election. It was like a punch to the gut, the whole city reeling from the shock.
The people of the city started getting scared, scared of getting robbed, scared of being of a certain faith. So, they turned to hate.
Suddenly, that peace we'd fought so hard for felt like it was slipping through our fingers. And then, out of the turmoil, came Richard Caidwall, one of the guys vying for Mayor. He painted this picture of Everhaven reclaiming its glory days under his watch, a lot of people fell for it and he became mayor. but you know how it is when you've got that gut feeling? Mine was telling me we were in for a rough ride, despite all the fancy promises."
