Though the circumstances of her present life are very favorable, she struggles to understand why God allowed her to suffer through an unstable, derelict childhood. She meets Mark, a handsome young missionary and they share sparks! But afraid of rejection and believing she isn't good enough for him, she keeps her distance, not realizing that God has other plans for them both. When a family crisis interrupts her vacation and then she runs into Mark, Lauren is awed by the coincidence but still rejects his offer of help. Yet when they're thrown together in an earthquake and Lauren is hurt, she's left with no choice but to accept Mark's offer.
