This book is a culmination of close to a decade of research, heroin rehabilitation and social reintegration work at the coast of Kenya. Inspiration to develop this manuscript was drawn from the author's practical experience working with heroin addicts, especially at the Muslim Education and Welfare Association (MEWA) Rehabilitation and Resource Centre, where the researcher spent time to develop heroin rehabilitation programmes and participated in rehabilitation and social reintegration work before he proceeded to Kenyatta University for his PhD in Medical Sociology in 2001. It is in the university that research in heroin abuse, addiction, rehabilitation and social integration intensified leading to a realization of this book. The book discusses a topical area that has contributed in a large way to youth radicalization and Violent Extremism at the Coastal Kenya. This book is a must read for sociologists, public health experts, health managers, social workers, psychologists, counselors, rehabilitation scientists and practitioners. The book is also highly recommended for general readership to enhance heroin abuse awareness and knowledge among the general populace.
