Heysham

Nestled in Lancashire's coastal landscape, the historic village of Heysham has always been a popular destination for tourists. This striking compilation of 220 postcards and photographs offers timeless views of Morcombe Bay, as well as nostalgic views of the harbour, churches, shops, cafes and hotels including the Royal Hotel in the village and Heysham Tower, which opened as a holiday camp in 1925. The postcard selection is drawn from a superb collection made available to Heysham Heritage Association by Rex Wilmhurst, and combines everyday scenes with views of popular and historic sites in and around Heysham. There are shoppers on Main Street, bathers at Heysham Rocks and holidaymakers in Heysham Head pleasure gardens and the tea gardens in the village, all capturing the traditional pleasures associated with a visit to the seaside; the contrasting scene and historical parts of Heysham also figure prominently. Each image is accompanied by detailed and informative captions, making the book a valuable pictorial history that will enlighten and enthral all inhabitants of and visitors to this part of the country.
