Nicole was at the top of her game. Now she was dead.

She was moving up in the corporate world fast, applying her brains and charms to those who helped her climb. There was Jim, her co-worker; Charlie, a cop; J.K., her boss and the Chairman of the Board; Mr. Hill, J.K.'s man for all seasons; and, of course, Neve, J.K.'s daughter. To Detectives Brandt and his partner, Charlie Young, something about Nicole's death felt amiss. It didn't make sense why Nicole, so successful, should die so unexpectedly. Young, who knew Nicole all too well, never told anyone about their relationship. Love and sex held many secrets.

Yet, despite her many successes-or maybe because of them-everyone had a motive for doing away with Nicole. For some, it was a betrayal of their trust and love. For others, it was Nicole's potential use of power and confidence.
