Meet Detective Sergeant Alicia Friend. She's nice. Too nice to be a copper if she's honest.

She is also one of the most respected criminal analysts in the country, and finds herself assigned to DI Murphy's team in a cold northern city, investigating the kidnap-murders of two young women, both of similar appearance.

But Richard-the father of latest girl to be taken-believes the police are not moving quickly enough. He launches a parallel investigation, utilising skills learned a long time ago, in a dark past that is about to catch up with him.

As his secret actions hinder the police, Alicia remains in contact with Richard, and even starts to fall for him, forcing her into choices that will impact the rest of her life.
