Horrendous Death and Health

The central theme of this book, which is made up of a series of essays, is that some kinds of death are caused by people, both intentionally and unintentionally. The writer maintains that horrendous death, including that occasioned by war, homicide, poverty and other man-made means, is the greatest public health problem of our time and the biggest threat to our future, surpassing the effects of AIDS and natural disasters. Nonetheless, horrendous deaths can, because they are man-made, be eliminated if people co-operate together effectively. The causes and outcomes of horrendous death are addressed and suggested solutions for the future are given.
