This book tackles the experience of previously-colonized people and how they are portrayed on stage as subalterns, especially in the African and Arab theaters. It is through the investigation of some selected plays by Athol Fugard, Wole Soyinka and Saadallah Wannus that the researcher can examine the possibility of self-expression for a once-colonized people in relation to their harsh experience under colonialism. In addition, the thesis is an attempt at examining the tools by which the three playwrights depict their people in the light of being treated by their colonizer as marginalized minorities. Therefore, the study investigates the elements of the theater of resistance and the use of semiotics within the framework of the post-colonial theory.
