I Am Not a Poet

"Solace found me when I wrote her letters: vulnerable, heartfelt, and brutally honest retellings of my experiences. Today, I wish to perform a dramatic reading of them for you. I will clamber onto a metaphorical stage, even as the little voice at the back of my mind tells me that I am not a poet.

Today, I will shut her out and open the windows.

Today, I will set myself free.

Today, I am a poet, and these are my stories."
