In January 2011, when Arab people finally demanded their freedom, the sky was the limit. After overthrowing the generals, the creation of a new future seemed possible.

But gradually, dreams became nightmares.

As a journalist specializing in extremism and terrorism, I have worked on fire lines in many locations. I have stared into the eyes of death, while it hovers over the ruins of cities and people and turns those who demand freedom into refugees or the dead.

The more details I gather in the lands of death, the more I realize how military dictatorships and religious extremism are twins feeding on violence and hatred. Both compete for authority, but in the end they are two sides of the same coin.

However this novel is neither about me nor my journalistic work. It is somehow about the "lost love message" that had been buried for eight centuries at the gates of Rome. Hence, here I am sweeping the dust and preaching it among people again.
