Images of the Disabled, Disabling Images

The first book of its kind, Images of the Disabled/Disabling Images combines an examination of the presentation of persons with disabilities in literature, film, and the media with an analysis of the ways in which these images are expressed in public policy concerning the disabled. Leaders of the disability rights movement and major scholars of disability issues explore both attitudes toward the disabled, as well as the ways in which the disabling images of these attitudes are incorporated in employment, health, housing, and education policies.
