As a young man, my father-in-law, Norman, vowed to himself that he would become a millionaire. His determination never waned in over seven decades. When I married into his family in 1972, I quickly realised that he was a man on a mission. Nothing and nobody could or would change his mind set in his quest to be rich. But there was a huge price to pay for his obsessive and often eccentric behaviour. Even when Norman reached his goal of having a million pounds, he continued his penny-pinching ways, with profound consequences.
