Fred Zandpour captures the essence of historical events that have shaped modern US-Iran relations, from the echoes of World War II to the birth of the Islamic Republic of Iran and its pivotal role in political tensions and regional conflicts with far-reaching implications. In this autobiography, Fred offers a captivating blend of historical insight, personal reflection, and inspiring themes of resilience and hope. Living through Vietnam War protests, simmering tensions of race relations, explosive counter-cultural revolution in the United States, and witnessing firsthand the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979, he offers a lens through which to view the world, In the Crossfire of War and Peace.
Fred was born in Tehran, Iran. Before the Islamic Revolution, he was the managing director of Admen-BBDO in Tehran with a client list that included Exxon, Bristol Myers, and Colgate Palmolive. After the revolution, he immigrated to the United States with his family and earned a doctoral degree from the University of Washington Seattle, and launched his academic career, initially at Penn State and then at Cal State, becoming a professor and dean. He focused his energy on promoting international communication and integrating digital technology into his educational efforts. Fred earned numerous congressional commendations, as well as state and local certificates of recognition. President George Bush and Senator Dianne Feinstein congratulated Fred for winning the US Small Business Award in 2008 that recognized his educational contributions. He facilitated successful international educational programs in Europe and Asia, and his research on international advertising-widely published in US and UK journals-was one of the top ten most cited sources in the US for 10 years.
