This book is about the remarkable courage of a woman who
never married, finding in a woman's world the dignity and grace
of a life to which she felt she owed "something higher...needing
to do something to make her worthy of her death". The "Other
Poems", are about the bangtailed optimism of people working
their lives out in the "Depression Thirties" and through the hard
times of World War II. They are the history of a place as told
from the emotional memory of a boy who heard and saw much
more than he knew.
