The growing bonds between young lovers, between brothers and between a boy and a pig
Virginia, circa 1715: She is a strong and determined first-generation Virginian who has come to despise slavery. He is a naive indentured servant unprepared as an overseer of slaves, and while both work under the narcissistic and paranoid overseer of a large tobacco plantation, they will be challenged and changed in this amusing, heartwarming and yet suspenseful tale of life and love in colonial America, when before there was the Wild West, there was the Eerie East.
Becky expected by now to be married and starting a family in Boston, but she isn't. With her fianc dead, she is now a house servant working under the lustful eye of the tobacco plantation's overseer, Charles Philpot. Having had enough of slavery and anyone having anything to do with it, Becky plans to leave for Boston to begin a new life alone.
Only ever seeing a slave in passing, William escapes his work in the mine by taking an indentured contract as an assistant overseer on a tobacco plantation. It is an unusual contract but one he feels suited for, ensuring the slaves are safe, healthy and happy as the London agent had very much understated it. After a trying time during the voyage to Virginia, William finds himself torn between his new tasks and his conscience while adjusting to his new environment and watching over his brother, who was discovered stowed away on his ship and is now indentured to the same plantation.
Due to his poor reputation built mostly on rumors, few from Williamsburg to Jamestown would want to work for Charles Philpot as he oversees an absentee landowners plantation, and of those who would, he wouldn't want them to, preferring to request an indentured servant every seven years. Unlike the rumors, his reputation for getting what he wants without a care for whose feet he steps on, or worse, has been proven, and it is going to be proven again when he plans his revenge against the tobacco plantation.
