There is significant positive correlation between parenting styles and self-concept. Girls of authoritative parents had most positive self-concept than girls from other parenting styles. Parenting styles was significantly correlated with academic performance with girls of authoritative parents having better performance than those from other parenting styles. Self-concept had positive significant correlation with academic performance with girls of positive self-concept superior in academic performance than those with neutral and negative self-concept. To improve on girls' self-concept parents should adapt authoritative styles. Improving academic performance for girls should consider how they are treated at home with emphasis on authoritative parenting. Academic performance can be enhanced by counselling girls with neutral and negative self-concepts.
