International Society and the De Facto State

This work focuses on the causes and implications of de facto statehood for international relations. It does this in four main ways: first it addresses the question "What is the de facto state?"; second, it engages in a birth, life and death or evolution examination of the de facto state: third, it evaluates the potential impact of the phenomenon on the academic study of international relations; and finally the book considers the practical and policy implications of these entities.
