Irina

Irina Kwasniewska was a 14th Century peasant girl in Poznan, Poland, when her simple life turned upside down by an unexpected pregnancy upon the arrival of the Black Death. Disowned by her Roman Catholic family, she watches as her lover's family is murdered because they are Jews, and she decides no such fate will ever befall her or her unborn child. Through luck and perhaps, Providence, she manages to pass herself off as a woman of minor nobility, but makes many enemies as she is pursued across Poland, Germany, and France to observe an historic conclave of European royalty in Paris that December 1378.

What happens to her and her son, the priest-mentor who schooled her in the ways of nobility, and those who sought to murder her are the stuff of Irina's story spanning some thirty years. In that time, will she find another love? Will she come to understand the Almighty God she believed did not exist?
