It must not be done so, as you might read the title at the beginning. This book is written to show how powerful a tradition can be and people who are in a position of authority can manipulate it for their own advantage

In the story that we are going to look at later on we will see how the tradition in Laban's family obstructed Jacob life and changed his entire life altogether

We do have great tradition and customs in this life, for example we come from a custom of respect to the elder, when an elder shows up you stand up to give them a sit, I am pretty sure that as you are reading this you will agree with me that yes indeed they are good customs and traditions

Laban said to Jacob that it is not our customs to give the younger before the first. I want to be clear here that I am not advocating for polygamy or I am encouraging it. There is no such thing in Christianity to have a polygamous life. I am pretty sure that Jacod if you could ask him he would have told you that I just wanted Rachel nothing else. Now you see how a custom mishandled with wrong motives and wrong passion can redefine and change a life of a person?

The young man passion and vibrancy met a custom that introduced him into something from the beginning he never wanted to. We are now in Christ we must be vigilant to never allow certain customs that are in contrary with the word of God to lead us away from what God expects of us.

Our custom is Christ is to love God with all your might and love your neighbor as yourself. Christ has set us free from the power of customs and traditions.

Allow me to tell a little story, there was a family that was giving their daughter into marriage so as you might know in Africa the family ask for a dowry which is the customs in most part of Africa, i believe other part of the world has customs when it comes to wedding and marriages. However this has taken a different turn in our generation. They asked the brother to pay for the totem " a sacrifice to witchcraft " for the protection of the couple and children.

I want to lead us into this beautiful journey to stand up against certain practice that are against the word of God in our lives which sometime plays a big role in restricting our lives in one way or the other.
