Jacques Moeschal (1913-2004) obtained international acclaim as a sculptor with his monumental concrete sculptures on the edges of motorways in Belgium, Mexico and Israel. For the general public these 'Signals' are without doubt among the best-known sculptures in the public space in Belgium. This publication is the first comprehensive monography on the work of Jacques Moeschal. With three essays by Iwan Strauven, Angelique Campens and Valéry Didelon, it situates not only Moeschal's work as asculptor in an international context, it also draws new light on his own practice as an architect, which he developed parallel to his career as a sculptor. It is also the first publication to include an extensive illustrated list of works of Moeschal. The publication features rare archive materials, such as sketches, technical drawings, models, photographs, as well as contemporary images. Contemporary artists including Kasper Akhøj and Barney Kulok demonstrate how Moeschal's work remains relevant today.Text: Angelique Campens, Francelle Cane, Valéry Didelon, Sophie Lauwers, Roxane Le Grelle, Jacques Moeschal, Iwan Strauven
