This book follows the story of Jessie Larman, written simply, as she would speak to anyone, from her childhood days in Colchester, Essex at the end of the Second World War to her life now in Carnarvon, Western Australia. It was written as a record of Jessie's life mainly for her family members but it has a wider appeal because it opens a window onto a detailed social history into family life, their daily routines, attitudes and aspirations that would apply to many others.
It relates how the family and Jessie survived and lived during the Second world War years and the years afterwards. emigration to Australia, plantation life in Carnarvod and life as it is today, There are many witty comments and descriptions of events, which make this book an interesting read. It tells how people from very poor backgrounds lived, worked and played years ago and how they worked hard to better their lot. It's an excellent social history record.
