This study broadly evaluates journalists awareness, knowledge and the use of the Freedom of Information Act (FoIA) on journalism practice in Benue State of Nigeria. The study employed quantitative research using survey design. The research instrument used was the questionnaire. Findings revealed that most journalists in Benue State are aware of the Freedom of Information Act and its provisions, with a high level of knowledge about its value for journalism practice. However, the use of the Act by journalists in their work is limited, and its impact on journalism practice is low. Additionally, journalists face significant challenges in using the Act, including restrictions on uncovering facts, impounding of news materials, and corruption among both public office holders and journalists. The study recommended among others that media outlets should collaborate with the judiciary to compel the executives in granting unhindered access to journalists to public documents towards enhancing accountability and good governance in Nigeria at large and Benue State in particular.
