When Jula returns triumphant from winning the First Intergalactic Interspecies Games, she feels deep relief to be home. Even though humans have only lived on the planet for twenty years, they are thriving and fully committed to living sustainably here, not ruining this world as they did Earth. Jula's success at the Games has united her home's various factions in common pride and celebration. The tranquility is good for romance, but it doesn't last long: Jula and her friends discover a crime that threatens to destabilize everything, setting parents and children against each other and pitting settlers against the space-based agency that brought them to the planet.
