Julius Caesar

A fresh, contemporary translation of one of Shakespeares most dramatic and popular plays. Julius Caesar, Shakespeares famous Roman tragedy, chronicles the chaos leading up to the fateful murder of Caesar and the ensuing political fallout upon his death. Shishir Kurups translation updates Shakespeares language to allow more of the playwrights ideas to come through; it opens the wonders and blazing relevance of the plays rhetorical brilliance to the twenty-first century. This translation of Julius Caesar was written as part of the Oregon Shakespeare Festivals Play On! project, which commissioned new translations of thirty-nine Shakespeare plays. These translations present the work of The Bard in language accessible to modern audiences while never losing the beauty of Shakespeares verse. Enlisting the talents of a diverse group of contemporary playwrights, screenwriters, and dramaturges from diverse backgrounds, this project reenvisions Shakespeare for the twenty-first century. These volumes make these works available for the first time in printa new First Folio for a new era.
