This is a small volume of poetry embodying precepts which would do no discredit to the philosophy of this, twenty first century of Christian era.Concise and elegant the work is most popular throughout Persian speaking East.In addition to beauty of its diction, it is written in a meter which flows in easy cadence and fixes the words on the mind. Hence the lines are committed to memory unsurpassed by any book in Persian language.No perfect English translation of the work was in published in the 19th century and whatever attempts were made are out of print. The Urdu translation is presented for the benefit of Urdu speaking people as Persian language in Indian subcontinent has taken a back seat since independence.The other masterpieces of Shaikh Sadi are Gulistan and Bostan which describe stories with a moral ending.
