Kim Dickey: Words Are Leaves

Kim Dickey: Words Are Leaves is the first major monograph on Denver-based artist Kim Dickey (born 1964), published on the occasion of a midcareer survey of Dickeys work at MCA Denver. The book presents Dickeys sculpture and works on paper, as well as her film and performance-based works. Essays explore the conceptual, historical and aesthetic concerns that have driven Dickeys practice for three decades: her ongoing study of pattern and decoration, interest in landscape design and the history of the garden, feminist politics and references to various historical art styles and schools, ranging from medieval tapestry to Minimalist sculpture. Words Are Leaves illustrates how Dickeys reconsideration of craft and pattern brings the decorative to the fore, and to life.
