The interconnected stories of Kind Mirrors, Ugly Ghosts are fauxtofictions (a subgenre of autofiction), told via the perspective of a fractaled Claire.

As the narrator discovers fragments of herself draped over memory and subconscious, she reckons with sexual trauma, heterofatalism, illicit fantasies, Oedipal complexes, culinary artistry, and queer ancestry. These stories are told through the activation of ephemeral mediums: photographs and cult films and the digital screens that mediate our contemporary lives. Each story is a piece of the book’s larger worldbuilding, told through a wonderfully weird style of associative lyricism. Synchronicities and uncanny doubles are woven in and out of the book’s atmosphere, unearthing primordial conundrums about the possibility for meaning and hope in the 21st century.
