The First Jewish-Roman War of 66-73 A.D. was a struggle that had enormous consequences, not only for the Jews, but for Western civilization as a whole. The conquest of Jerusalem was a fast-paced story that highlights both the complexities of the fighting and the political maneuvering and religious aspects that influenced the outcome of the military struggle. Dando-Collins details the conflict from both sides of the seven-year campaign. His examination of the revolt draws on numerous archaeological and forensic discoveries made in recent years to illuminate the people and events as they have never been seen before. Neither side emerges unscathed from the conflict. Both were heroic and barbaric in equal measure. In the end, the Jewish freedom fighters lost the war and Jerusalem, their holy city, the center of the campaign on both sides. Today, however, Jerusalem is once again the heart of the Jewish faith, while, thanks to Christianity, the Roman Empire and its gods have disappeared.
